Tribute to DBSC Sailor Charlie McKean

The Commodore, Flag Officers, and Committee members of Dublin Bay Sailing Club wish to express their deepest sorrow at the passing of Charlie McKean during the Saturday opening race of the DBSC 2026 summer season.

Charlie McKean was a crew member aboard J109 White Mischief, co-skippered by Tim and Richard Goodbody.

Charlie was a cherished member of our sailing community — a well-known and accomplished sailor, a kind and generous person whose presence lifted those around him. His enthusiasm for the sport, his friendly ways, and his unmistakable sense of humour made him a friend to many across Dublin Bay and beyond.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Charlie’s family, especially his son Leo, and to his many friends and crewmates. Our thanks to the RNLI, Dun Laoghaire Coastguard and all those who were present and involved in the response on the day, including our own DBSC race management teams and RIB crews.

May he rest in peace.
