DBSC is saddened to learn of the death of Jennifer Hudson.
Jennifer was a stalwart of the Water Wag Class serving with her late husband Tom as race officers for many years. In the days before bigger committee boats both climbed in and out of a rib every week in all weathers to ensure the Wags got competitive racing. Her positive attitude and commitment always shone through, even when the Wags were all over the start line!
Tributes were paid amongst the Wag class describing her as a wonderful woman, and a fanastic sailor not just in Dublin Bay but among the Shannon Cruising community in Lough Derg.
Jennifer was a member of the famous Millar family of Dun Laoghaire, to whom we also pay tribute to for the loss of Jennifer’s sister Susan Gray this week.
Married to former Olympian Peter Gray as quoted in Afloat “their families beneficially affected many areas of sailing, a particular highlight being the seven year detailed Round the World Cruise made by Peter & Susan Gray with their Rival 41 Waxwing. This was awarded the Irish Cruising Club’s Rockabill Trophy in 2000 for their skill and seamanshipshown in bringing Waxwing through a storm of hurricane force while making the long passage from the Pacific islands to New Zealand.”
Our sympathies to the Gray and Hudson families and friends, especially to their sister and Water Wag President Gail Varian. Fair winds and may they rest in peace.
